Was
born in 1947
in Germany.
At age 17,
he began a
4 year art
training that
ranged from
graphic art
to mural painting.
In
1970 he emigrated
to Canada settling
in Vancouver,
British Columbia
where he first
worked in display,
painting sets.
He was then
introduced
to the basics
of working
creatively
on metal surfaces
such as brass,
copper and
aluminum.
In
1973, he started
his own design
studio and
has since furthered
his skills
of etching,
oxidizing and
painting on
metals in to
a unique art
form. His work
is currently
exhibited and
sold in U.S.A.,
Germany and
Canada.
Working
process:
A design is
painted on
to the metal
surface using
acid resistant
paint. In the
following treatment
with an acid
solution, the
surrounding
areas are etched
(eating in
to surface)
to leave the
design slightly
raised, and
the paint is
again removed.
Various
methods of
using oxidizing
agents will
result in a
variety of
colour patterns,
a desired contrast
or a completely
blackened surface.
Thin layers
of semi-transparent
paint will
also add to
the colour
scheme.
The
skillfull brushing
and sanding
of the design
will render
it beautifully
highlighted
and the resulting
three dimensional
effect is reminiscent
of sculpture.
Finally,
signed and
lacquered with
several layers,
the surface
is sealed and
protected.
